Words That Rock Your Soul - Art & Poetry by Susan Hill
I was born in Banstead in Surrey in a public house called 'The Wheatsheaf'. My mother and father were the licensees there and the 'pub' was a home to them all including my brother and sister.
I went to local schools in the area but left with no qualifications.I had a passion for learning and writing stories and I hope to always be able to do so.
I always had a leaning towards art but I was never encouraged.
In the early 80's I attended 'SCOLA' Sutton School of Liberal Arts studying techniques of watercolour.
I developed my own unique style and techniques in painting. When the course was completed I became a founder member of 'The Sutton Watercolourists'.
This group meets as a co-operative group. The group has an exhibition at least once a year in the local area.
While this was going on I was writing inspired poetry, putting it away in a drawer never thinking that there would be any future in it. I was constantly being supported and encouraged to keep writing by my pastor and friends.
Gradually more and more poems were written. One day I had a count and was surprised to find at least seventy poems had been written.
I had a crazy idea to get published but found out that getting a publisher especially for my specialized work would be practically impossible.
I then found out about 'print on demand' services by some publishers and so went ahead with the manuscript.
I recently joined another art group 'The Worple Group' in Wimbledon. This group does not meet through the year but hosts two exhibitions in
St Marks church Wimbledon.
This is a very prestigious group and the client list is nearing the thousand mark. The group is made up of artists from the local area, the age range from 20s to over 80.The styles are very varied and each artist is allocated a mini gallery section so that the work can be seen as a collection.
I decided that I would combine both talents in my book. Not expecting it to come together so well or so completely.
Amazingly I only needed to paint a few special pictures for the book. The bulk came from my collection.
I am looking forward to the book being a 'success' This book has been read on Premier Christian Radio and I have been interviewed by David Aldous at the Christian Resource Exhibition
I have also been interviewed by The Gospel Channel on the internet at the same exhibition.
I know that a lot of pleasure will come from reading it.
I continue to 'reach for the stars' as they say stretching myself to do my best and to do my part in showing God's mind and thoughts towards mankind.
